The Latest

Last stretch

So far, the show has been right about what we expected. We've averaged about 23 paying customers a night, about 26 total people seeing the play, which is right on target with what we were hoping. The space has been great, our one concern (that our rug was stolen) has been remedied, the people at the Gershwin have been so lovely, and they have allowed us free reign inside the theater.

So, it was a bit of a surprise when we realized that we have several more reservations for tonight than we have seats. And that we are selling really well for tomorrow.

As I was writing this, I just got a call for more tickets. We have 51 people reserved for tonight, and we have about 46 seats usually. We'll have about thirty people tomorrow, which means we will have had as many people the last weekend as we had the entire rest of the run. And, people have been really enjoying it, a lot of this is word of mouth and people returning for a second shot.

One might think that we should extend, all things considered. But the truth is, we always knew we could get 150 or 160 people to see the show, and that's right around where we thought we would be. If we had one more week, no-one would come this week, everyone wants to wait until closing weekend.

So, I will probably have one more post after we close. As for now, this whole thing has worked out pretty well, and if we survive tonight's show, we will at least have broken even. Posted at 10:45 AM by sean williams

Success

We have had four shows, two weekends of the run are over. Our money has worked out about as well as we could possibly have expected. Sunday night the second weekend, we had a bit of a small audience, but it was still 16 people, which would have been a huge audience for our first couple of shows.

The response has been incredible. Just incredible. So many of the people that we admire and respect have seen the show and they just love it. There has been no qualifiers, people are just effusive about the show.

Which is really nice. We sat down eight months ago with about twelve different ideas for shows and we shove everything off the table and left this blinking idea; Jordana as a sleuth, written by Mac. We thought it might be funny, we thought it might be touching, but we knew what *we* thought about it.

And the people who see the show think we're right. So much of our world is focus grouped, so much of what we do is dependent on the mood of the market, and this retarded little play we're doing is really a labor of love for us, which just happens to play to other people.

And that satisfaction is extraordinary. Also, the fact that we might make money on the run is pretty damn nice. Posted at 6:31 PM by sean williams
